EPA INTENDS TO EXAMINE CAR EMISSIONS RATES AND DETERMINE WHETHER CLEAN CHIT IS ISSUED

Kuwait City: According to Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ahmad, director general of the Environment Public Authority (EPA), the envelopes for the management and operation of the technical inspection centres under the Ministry of Interior will be opened soon. Sheikh Al-Ahmad revealed these centres will measure the rate of car emissions before renewing the vehicle registration book in a press release on the sidelines of the opening of the first sustainable environmental school in the nation, Al-Jazaer High School in Shamiya. He confirmed that the authority is currently working with the ministry to finish the necessary bid-related procedures.

He explained that in order to determine whether or not the registration book will be renewed, EPA will examine the vehicles and their emission rates, issue a statement on the condition of each vehicle, and then attach the statement to the vehicle's technical inspection file.

He stated that the measurement implementers at EPA and the technical inspection firms would receive the inspection data. Since an agreement has been reached with the ministry, no vehicle registration book will be renewed unless the standards are met, he added that these companies will ensure the validity of vehicle exhaust.

Sheikh Al-Ahmad stated at the opening of the nation's first sustainable environmental school that the "We Protect It" movement and the Ministry of Education worked together to make this happen. He declared that the programme is committed to promoting agriculture, ensuring food security, and achieving sustainability through education. As a means of addressing environmental problems like water scarcity and climate change, he called for the establishment of sustainable environmental schools at all academic levels.
