Kuwait City: During the month of October, 711 people who broke the law regarding residency and employment were detained by the committee made up of representatives from the Public Authority for Manpower, the Ministries of Interior and Commerce, and the Kuwait Municipality. Muhammad Al-Dhafiri, the head of the PAM inspection team, reported that 32 violators were apprehended last Saturday in and around popular markets in Farwaniya and Dajeej as a result of the most recent campaign, which was put together by PAM officials in conjunction with the Interior Ministry.

Al-Dhafiri added most of the workers who were arrested were Article 18 but they were caught working for others rather than their sponsors in addition to 3 domestic workers, and two on family visa. The sources pointed 12 warnings were also issued to commercial establishments in accordance with Article 10 of the Labor Law. The source stated that the authority carries out daily campaigns on violating facilities and commercial complexes, under the direct supervision of Acting Director-general, Dr. Mubarak Al-Azmi, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Residence Investigations.

In this context, statistics showed that 450 violators were detained in October, along with another group who sold illegal drugs or practised medicine and were discovered working in fictitious domestic worker hiring agencies. The sources emphasised that the inspection campaigns also target employees who transgress public morals and labour laws in massage parlours, where 25 Asian-American residents were detained and taken to the deportation centre.
