A Kuwaiti court has imposed a 10-year prison sentence on three Gulf nationals for their involvement in the forgery of Kuwaiti citizenship and the unlawful acquisition of KD500,000 (approximately Dh5.97 million) in government salaries and benefits. Additionally, the criminal court mandated that the defendants repay KD1 million to the state treasure.
This amount represents double the total government compensation they received while fraudulently claiming to be the offspring of Kuwaiti men. In light of recent efforts to combat citizenship fraud and dual nationality, Kuwait, a nation with a population of approximately 4.9 million, predominantly consisting of expatriates, has intensified its measures to safeguard national identity. Since early March, authorities have revoked citizenship from hundreds of individuals due to fraudulent activities or the possession of another nationality, which is prohibited under Kuwaiti law.
