Hunter Biden, 54, faced convictions earlier this year for falsifying a federal firearm application by concealing his narcotic addiction, illegally purchasing a gun, and committing tax-related violations. Despite these charges, Biden granted his son clemency, stating that the prosecution was unduly harsh due to Hunter’s familial ties.
“Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter,” Biden said, emphasizing that his administration did not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making. He argued that cases involving similar charges typically result in non-criminal resolutions, especially when mitigating factors, such as addiction recovery and repayment of overdue taxes, are present. Biden maintained that his son was selectively targeted, resulting in a disproportionately severe trial.
