GRAP Stage I Activated Across Delhi-NCR as Air Quality Turns Poor

New Delhi: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has activated Stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the Delhi-NCR region after the capital’s air quality slipped into the “poor” category.

According to official data, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 208 on May 19. Forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology indicated that pollution levels are likely to remain in the same category over the coming days.

In an official statement, the CAQM said Delhi’s AQI had shown a rising trend and directed authorities across the NCR to immediately implement all measures prescribed under GRAP Stage I.

The commission also instructed agencies to strengthen enforcement measures, intensify anti-pollution drives and closely monitor emission sources to prevent further deterioration in air quality.

Residents have been urged to follow the GRAP Stage I citizen advisory, which includes steps to reduce personal exposure and limit pollution-causing activities.

Officials said the measures are intended to stop air quality from slipping into more severe categories that would require stricter restrictions under higher GRAP stages.
