India on Alert After Suspected Ebola Case Detected in Hyderabad

Health authorities in Hyderabad have shifted a Sudanese national to an isolation facility after he displayed symptoms consistent with a suspected Ebola infection upon arrival at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

Officials said the passenger had recently travelled through South Sudan and Uganda, regions currently under heightened surveillance due to the ongoing Ebola outbreak.

The passenger was identified during routine screening conducted by the Airport Health Organisation, which has strengthened monitoring of international arrivals as part of precautionary measures against the spread of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

Authorities clarified that the case has not been confirmed as Ebola. The traveller has been classified as a suspected case based on symptoms and travel history, and further laboratory testing is required before any diagnosis can be made.

The patient has been admitted to a dedicated Ebola Isolation Centre at Gandhi Hospital, where medical teams will monitor his condition and conduct necessary tests.

Last month, Hyderabad airport introduced enhanced health screening measures in line with guidelines issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. These measures apply to passengers arriving from or transiting through Ebola-affected regions.

Health officials have urged the public not to panic, stressing that surveillance systems are functioning as intended and that no confirmed Ebola case has been reported in Hyderabad so far.
