Renault Rolls Out AI-Powered Gemini Across Compatible Vehicles

Paris: Renault has begun rolling out Google Gemini across vehicles equipped with its openR link multimedia system, replacing Google Assistant through a free over-the-air software update.

The rollout, which began on 15 June 2026, is being introduced gradually across Renault’s European lineup and selected international markets. Existing compatible vehicles will receive the upgrade automatically without requiring a visit to a dealership.

Google Gemini offers more natural and contextual conversations, allowing drivers to make complex requests without memorising voice commands. The AI assistant can control vehicle functions such as air conditioning, navigation, radio and settings, while also providing live electric vehicle range information to support route planning.

Unlike Android Auto, where many functions depend on a connected smartphone, Gemini is integrated directly into the vehicle, enabling smarter in-car assistance and improved system performance.

Renault also announced that a future Gemini Live feature will introduce more natural conversations, including mid-sentence interruptions, multiple sequential requests without repeating the wake phrase and the ability to switch languages during a conversation.

At launch, the service supports 13 languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Swedish, Dutch, Polish, Danish, Norwegian and Turkish. Renault said additional languages will be added through future software updates.

The company described the platform as a continuously evolving system that will receive new features and improvements automatically through over-the-air updates.
