Dubai Metro Upgrades 262 Escalators to Boost Safety

Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the refurbishment of 262 escalators across the Dubai Metro network as part of a major programme to improve passenger safety, reliability and travel comfort.

The project, carried out in partnership with Keolis MHI, covers around 63 per cent of all escalators installed at Dubai Metro stations. It forms part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance public transport infrastructure and deliver a smoother travel experience for commuters.

According to the RTA, the refurbishment included comprehensive inspections and the replacement or upgrading of essential components such as handrail belts, drive systems and motor units to improve operational efficiency and extend the lifespan of the equipment.

Officials said the initiative supports Dubai’s long-term vision of becoming a global leader in smart, safe and sustainable transportation, while ensuring metro facilities continue to meet the highest operational and safety standards.

The RTA added that regular maintenance and infrastructure upgrades remain a key part of its strategy to provide reliable public transport services for the growing number of Dubai Metro passengers.
