Kuwait Issues High Alert as Electricity Consumption Hits Record

Kuwait City: Kuwait has recorded its highest electricity consumption amid an intense heatwave, prompting the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy to place the country’s power sector on high alert.

With temperatures forecast to reach 51°C in the coming days, the ministry has activated comprehensive preparedness measures to ensure uninterrupted electricity and water supplies during the period of peak demand.

Officials said maintenance work on power generation units and water desalination plants has been completed, ensuring that all facilities are fully operational to meet rising electricity consumption.

The ministry added that electricity imports through the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) interconnection grid are helping Kuwait manage increased demand during the summer.

Control rooms are operating around the clock to monitor the national power grid, manage electrical loads and respond quickly to any emergency that may arise.

Authorities also said efforts to improve power distribution through smart grid technologies have been intensified to maintain network stability.

The ministry urged residents and businesses to cooperate by using electricity responsibly, warning that demand is expected to increase further as extreme temperatures continue.
