Kuwait City: Kuwait’s Ministry of Public Works is preparing a comprehensive project to curb road damage caused by overloaded trucks by introducing advanced weighing stations and smart monitoring systems across the country’s road network.
The ministry will soon invite tenders for a detailed study and design of truck weighing stations, transport routes and supporting infrastructure. The initiative aims to reduce the significant damage caused by trucks operating above the permitted weight limits.
Officials said overloaded heavy vehicles contribute to the deterioration of road surfaces and the formation of potholes, forcing the government to spend substantial amounts each year on road maintenance and repairs.
As part of the project, a technical study will analyse the number of trucks, their weights, and the routes they frequently use. The findings will help authorities better plan future road construction and rehabilitation projects.
The plan also includes measures to divert heavy truck traffic away from residential areas, easing congestion and improving public safety.
In addition, Kuwait plans to deploy smart digital weighing and real-time monitoring systems on major roads to automatically measure truck weights and strengthen enforcement.
With the project expected to cost more than KD75,000, the Ministry of Public Works will coordinate with the Central Agency for Public Tenders to complete the procurement process.
