Kuwait City: Kuwaiti authorities have seized more than 3.2 tonnes of spoiled fish that was allegedly being prepared for sale at the Waterfront Market, preventing what officials described as a serious public health risk.
The operation was carried out jointly by the General Authority for Food and Nutrition (GAFN) and the Ministry of Interior, resulting in the confiscation of 3,237 kilograms of fish deemed unfit for human consumption.
Inspectors found that the fish had abnormal colour and appearance and emitted a strong foul odour, clear signs that it had spoiled. Authorities said the products were in a hazardous condition and should never have been offered for sale.
Legal action has been initiated against those responsible for the violation. The entire seized stock was destroyed in accordance with approved health and safety regulations to ensure it could not re-enter the market.
The General Authority for Food and Nutrition said inspections at food markets across the country will continue to be intensified to safeguard public health. Residents have been urged to report any suspected food safety violations to the relevant authorities.
Officials also advised consumers to exercise caution when purchasing seafood at unusually low prices and to ensure products are bought only from reputable and licensed vendors.
