Beijing: China’s National Meteorological Centre issued an orange typhoon alert on Sunday after Typhoon Noul made landfall in the southern province of Guangdong, bringing maximum winds of Force 14 near its centre.
According to the meteorological authorities, the storm later weakened from a severe typhoon to a typhoon as it moved inland on Sunday morning.
China operates a four-tier colour-coded warning system for typhoons, with red representing the highest level of alert, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
The National Meteorological Centre also renewed a red alert for rainstorms and a yellow alert for severe convective weather, warning of continued heavy rainfall and hazardous weather conditions.
Authorities urged local governments and residents to strengthen precautions against flash floods, landslides and mudslides, which are expected to pose significant risks in affected areas.
Emergency response teams remain on alert as officials closely monitor the storm’s movement and its potential impact on communities across southern China.
