Kuwait City: Residents planning to travel abroad or leave their homes for summer holidays have been urged to switch off unused electrical appliances before departure, as Kuwait steps up efforts to conserve electricity and maintain the stability of the national power grid.
The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy (MEWRE) advised residents to check their homes carefully before travelling and ensure that appliances that do not need to remain operational are completely switched off.
The ministry specifically highlighted air conditioners, lights, televisions, computers and chargers, saying that leaving unnecessary appliances running in an empty home can waste electricity and may also increase safety risks.
Residents have also been encouraged to use electricity only where necessary and switch to energy-efficient LED lighting, which can help reduce household power consumption.
Appliances with high electricity consumption should also be avoided when they are not required or operated only when necessary, the ministry advised.
The guidance comes as Kuwait experiences intense summer temperatures, when widespread use of air-conditioning systems significantly increases electricity demand across the country. Authorities said cooperation from households can play an important role in reducing pressure on the power network and maintaining efficient electricity supplies.
The ministry stressed that even small reductions in household electricity consumption can collectively contribute to the country’s energy security.
Residents have therefore been advised to make an electrical safety and energy check part of their travel preparations, ensuring unnecessary appliances are switched off before leaving home.
The ministry reiterated that responsible electricity consumption not only helps prevent waste but also supports household safety and the stability of Kuwait’s electricity network during periods of peak summer demand.
