UAE Temperatures Cross 50°C Despite Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms

The UAE recorded temperatures above 50°C even as rain and thunderstorms affected several parts of the country. According to the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM), Awtaed in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region recorded 50.1°C at 2.15pm, while temperatures also reached 50°C in Mesaira’a and remained above 49°C in several other inland locations.

At the same time, rainfall was reported across Abu Dhabi city, Al Madam and Faili in Sharjah, parts of southern Ras Al Khaimah and Tauban in Fujairah. Some central areas also experienced light rain, highlighting contrasting weather conditions between the intensely hot western desert and rain-affected eastern, southern and central regions.

With the traditional peak summer period known as Jamrat Al-Qaith continuing into the second week of August, intense afternoon temperatures are expected to persist in desert areas. Intermittent rain and thunderstorms may also continue in parts of the UAE over the coming days.
