UAE federal government employees will be allowed flexible working hours as children return to school from Monday, August 31, under the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources’ Flexible Work Policy.
Federal government employees with children in primary school and above can request flexible working arrangements on their child’s first day of school. Employees may adjust their reporting and departure times by up to three hours, allowing parents to accompany their children during the transition back to school.
The flexibility will also take into account differences in school reopening dates across various curricula.
Employees with children in nursery or kindergarten will be permitted to request flexible working arrangements during their child’s first week of school.
Flexibility for Other School Events
The policy also allows government employees to request flexible working hours when attending certain important school-related occasions. These include parent-teacher meetings, graduation ceremonies and other special school activities.
The initiative has been in place since 2024 and is designed to support employees in balancing family responsibilities while ensuring that government services and workplace operations continue without disruption.
