Kuwait cracks down on smoking in public places; 30 violations recorded

Kuwait has intensified enforcement against smoking in public and prohibited areas, with 30 violations recorded during a targeted inspection at Al Mubarakiya Market.

The inspection was carried out by the Environmental Police under the Security Directorates Affairs sector. Authorities registered 30 cases involving smoking in prohibited enclosed and partially enclosed areas. Officials also recorded one violation for littering in a public place and took action against an establishment for allowing customers to smoke inside its premises.

The Ministry of Interior said the inspections are part of efforts to enforce Kuwait’s environmental protection laws, prevent prohibited activities and maintain the cleanliness and cultural appearance of public places.

People found smoking in prohibited enclosed or partially enclosed areas can face fines ranging from KD 50 to KD 100. Establishments that allow smoking inside their premises may be fined between KD 1,000 and KD 5,000.

Those who dispose of waste in public places can also face fines ranging from KD 50 to KD 500, depending on the violation.

The Ministry of Interior urged the public to comply with environmental protection regulations and avoid smoking in prohibited areas to prevent legal action and fines.
