Bahrain steps up labor market inspections, deports 547 workers in September

Bahrain intensified nationwide labor market inspections in September, conducting 4,847 inspection campaigns and surprise visits that resulted in 67 workers being detained and 547 people being deported for violations of labor and residency regulations.

The inspections were carried out as part of efforts to strengthen regulation of the country’s labor market, prevent illegal employment and residency and ensure compliance with applicable laws.

The Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) conducted 4,675 direct inspection visits at commercial establishments and workplaces across Bahrain’s governorates during the month.

In addition, the authority organized 172 joint inspection campaigns in cooperation with various security agencies.

The joint campaigns covered Bahrain’s main governorates, including 74 campaigns in the Capital Governorate, 67 in the Northern Governorate, 22 in Muharraq and 19 in the Southern Governorate.

The inspections focused on identifying violations of labor and residency regulations and taking legal action against individuals and establishments found to be operating outside the applicable rules.

The LMRA stated that coordinated inspection operations with government agencies will continue in the coming days as part of efforts to address labor market irregularities and strengthen compliance with the law.

The authority has also urged employers and workers to comply with Bahrain’s labor and residency requirements and avoid practices that could result in legal action.
