Saudi Ticket Prices Soar as Flight Disruptions Hit Kerala Travellers

Airfares between Kerala and Saudi Arabia have surged to as much as Rs 50,000 amid flight disruptions linked to escalating tensions in the Middle East, adding to the financial burden on expatriates and other travelers.

According to the report, fares on the Jeddah-Calicut route operated by Saudia, which previously ranged from Rs 18,000 to Rs 25,000, have risen to between Rs 45,000 and Rs 50,000. Reduced flight availability has left passengers facing higher travel costs as they search for alternative services.

The disruptions follow security concerns linked to reported Houthi attacks in the region. Air India and Air India Express have extended suspensions of flights to and from Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam until October 24, 2026, while other Indian carriers have also announced restrictions on Saudi services.

The impact is significant for Kerala, where Saudi Arabia is a major destination for expatriate workers and other Gulf-bound travelers. The source report estimates that around 40% of passengers traveling from Kerala to Gulf countries are heading to Saudi Arabia.

Amid the disruption, Alhind Travels reportedly operated charter flights between Jeddah and Kochi to help passengers facing difficulties. The reported fares ranged from Rs 23,000 to Rs 25,000 for travel from Saudi Arabia to Kerala and from Rs 30,000 to Rs 36,000 for journeys from Kerala to Saudi Arabia.

With scheduled services affected, passengers are facing difficult choices over travel dates, routes and costs. Travelers are advised to confirm flight status directly with their airline or travel agent before leaving for the airport, as suspension dates and operating schedules may change.
