Kuwait has introduced new restrictions on factory operating hours as the country faces increasing pressure on its electricity network due to soaring summer temperatures and record power consumption.
According to directives issued by the Public Authority for Industry, factories will be required to suspend operations daily from 11 am to 5 pm beginning May 15. The temporary regulation will remain in effect until September 15.
Officials said the move is aimed at preventing electricity disruptions and reducing strain on the national power grid during peak daytime demand hours, when air conditioner usage rises significantly across the country.
Authorities explained that the sharp increase in temperatures has led to exceptionally high electricity consumption levels, prompting urgent measures to maintain the stability of Kuwait’s power supply network.
To compensate for production losses during daytime shutdowns, industrial establishments have been allowed to increase night shift operations and adjust working schedules accordingly.
The Ministry of Electricity Water and Renewable Energy stressed that cooperation from the industrial sector is essential to ensure uninterrupted electricity services and avoid large scale power outages during the summer season.
Officials also warned that companies violating the new directives could face legal action and penalties under existing regulations.
The latest measures come as Gulf countries continue dealing with rising energy demand during periods of extreme heat, with governments increasingly focusing on energy management and grid stability.
Residents and businesses across Kuwait have also been urged to support electricity conservation efforts by reducing unnecessary energy consumption during peak hours.
