Oman recorded 32,405 births and 4,590 deaths during the first six months of 2026, with both figures declining compared with the same period last year, according to provisional data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). Of the total births, 28,828 were among Omani citizens and 3,577 among expatriate families. In June alone, 5,560 births were registered, down 1.7 percent from 5,665 in May.
Among Omani citizens, 14,793 boys and 14,035 girls were born during the six-month period, while expatriate families recorded 1,847 boys and 1,730 girls. Compared with the previous year, births of Omani girls declined by 3.7 percent, while births of Omani boys increased by 0.3 percent. Overall births among expatriate families fell by 2 percent, including declines of 1.5 percent among boys and 2.4 percent among girls.
Oman also registered 4,590 deaths during the first half of 2026, representing a 7.3 percent year-on-year decline. Deaths among Omani citizens fell 6.6 percent to 3,646, while expatriate deaths dropped 9.9 percent to 944. The decline was greater among women, with deaths falling 10.6 percent among Omani women and 16.7 percent among expatriate women. NCSI noted that the figures are provisional and exclude births and deaths that occurred outside Oman.
