Kuwait court sentences two to seven years over citizenship forgery

Kuwait’s Criminal Court has sentenced two defendants to seven years in prison with hard labor in a case involving the alleged forgery of Kuwaiti citizenship documents and financial benefits obtained from public institutions.

The verdict was issued by a panel headed by Counselor Al-Dhuwaihi Mubarak Al-Dhuwaihi and comprising Judges Hamad Al-Hajri and Faisal Al-Khudair. One of the defendants was present when the ruling was issued, while the second was sentenced in absentia.

The first defendant was ordered to pay a fine of KD185,107 and will be deported from Kuwait after completing the prison sentence.

The second defendant was dismissed from his job and ordered to return KD103,318.389 to four public institutions. The amount is to be distributed among the Kuwait Municipality, the Public Institution for Social Security, the Public Authority for Manpower and the Public Authority for Housing Welfare according to the amounts attributed to each entity in the court verdict.

The court also imposed a KD206,636 fine on the second defendant, equivalent to twice the total amount obtained from the public entities.

Both defendants are to be deported after serving their prison sentences, according to the ruling.

The court further ordered the confiscation of the forged documents seized during the investigation.

The judgment combines prison terms, financial penalties, recovery of public funds and confiscation of forged documents, underscoring the legal consequences associated with falsifying citizenship-related documents and using them to obtain benefits or funds from government institutions.
