DEATH TOLL RISES TO 113 IN AFGANISTHAN FLOOD

  • 01/08/2021

The loss of life of last week's flooding in Afghanistan's Kamdish area has ascended to 113 with handfuls actually missing, adding that 70 more were harmed. The floods occurred on Wednesday because of hefty downpours in the Kamdish region in Nuristan province.

Such disasters are common in the country, especially in poor rural areas, where houses are usually poorly constructed and located in dangerous places. These incidents kill dozens of people every year in Afghanistan.

The devastation comes as the government seeks to curb the advance of the Taliban, who have occupied large rural areas of the country for the past three months. Afghanistan, whose healthcare system remains extremely precarious despite the support of foreign donors, is also facing a third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
