CONFUSION OVER VISA RENEWAL FOR EXPATRIATES OVER 60 YEARS NOT RESOLVED

Kuwait City: Confusion over visa renewal for expatriates over 60 years of age in the country has not been resolved. PAM officials have advised employers not to visit the Public Authority of Manpower or Labor Department offices in connection with the issue. Officials said the proposals were not being considered by the Commerce and Industry Minister and were awaiting a decision.

Earlier, Kuwaiti authorities had decided to charge a higher fee for renewing visas for expatriates over the age of 60 who do not have a high school education qualification. However, the government agreed to amend the decision following massive protests. Those who work for higher and lower salaries due to lack of education are more likely to be paid higher fees than those with lower salaries. Earlier, members of parliament had said it was impractical to renew the permit. It was decided to give effect to the age limit from last January.
