KUWAIT HAS AN AVERAGE OF 12 SUICIDES PER MONTH

Kuwait City: Kuwait has an average of 12 suicide cases per month, according to official statistics. 120 cases of suicide have been reported in Kuwait since the year 2021. In the previous year, there were only 90 suicides reported in the country.


The majority of suicide cases are reported among Asian community members, and the number of suicides has increased since the Corona pandemic began.

Since the beginning of "Corona," the security team has prevented dozens of Asians from committing suicide, according to the report. 

According to the report, the high suicide rates began with the spread of the Coronavirus.

According to a study by the National Office for Human Rights, the effects of the Corona pandemic in terms of unemployment, the closure of hundreds of businesses and commercial activities, and the use of drugs are the main causes of the phenomenon. As a result of the pandemic's impact, a large number of residents of various nationalities have lost their jobs.

 Suicidal behaviour is more common in people who suffer from moderate and severe depression, according to Dr. Al-Huwaila, a psychologist at Kuwait University. Domestic workers, East Asians, and some Arab nationalities commit suicide as a result of debt accumulation or psychological disorders, according to statistics," the report added, quoting her.
