KUWAIT CITY: While the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the emergence of its variant continue to affect more than one sector globally for the second year in a row, Abdul Hakim Al-Ahmad, Head of the Union of Fresh Dairy Producers, has warned of a looming crisis due to lower quantities of dry and green fodder reaching the country, such as wheat, barley, lentils, shamrocks, Sudan grass, sorghum, and green barley.

He stated that previous requests to the government to intervene in saving the owners of farms and livestock pens from the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the availability of fodder were ignored.

According to Al-Ahmad, the current situation will have serious ramifications for food security, especially if the COVID-19 crisis continues for an unknown period of time.
