INCREASE IN COVID CASES, HEAVY TURNOUT AT PCR TEST IN KUWAIT

Kuwait City: Since late last week, PCR test facilities at government and private sector hospitals have seen a significant increase in the number of suspected instances of infection with the emerging "Corona" virus, as a result of the spread of the new strain of the modified 'Omicron' virus.

There were queues of people wishing to conduct the test and queues of people wishing to receive the third booster dose, and the number reached 528,000. Health sources attributed the high demand for PCR to the desire of some for reassurance, in addition to the large number of people who have returned from abroad and must do the PCR test 72 hours after arrival if they want to end the quarantine period within 10 days.

According to Ministry of Health data, the number of swabs collected per day has increased by 30 to 35,000 per day, the greatest since the pandemic's breakout in February 2020.

As part of assessing the epidemiological situation, the Ministry of Health stated in a statement yesterday that daily cases of infection are still recording "unprecedented numbers," emphasising that technical teams are diligently following up on cases inside hospital wards and ICU.
