KUWAIT'S POLICY OF KUWAITIZATION RESULTED IN 1,98,666 FOREIGNERS LEAVING THE GOVERNMENT SECTOR

Kuwait City: According to the Central Administration of Statistics' quarterly report, employees from India and Egypt were the most likely to leave the local labour market due to the corona pandemic problem. The number of Indian expats declined by 16.1%, while the number of Egyptian expats decreased by 9.8%.


According to expert and observer reports, the implementation of Kuwaitization policy, which has been followed by a number of ministries, increased Kuwaitis working in the government sector from 76.6 percent to 78.3 percent in 2021, while Kuwaitis working in the private sector increased from 4.3 percent to 4.7 percent. This is primarily due to the 146,949 expats who left Kuwait last year. 

The proportion of expat workers in Kuwait's labour market fell from 81.5 percent in 2020 to 78.9 percent in 2021. According to labour statistics from the end of March 2021, the number of foreign employees (excluding family and domestic workers) decreased by 9.3%, to 1,947,497 expats. In March 2020, there were 198,666 fewer expats than in March 2019.
