FAMILIES 'RUN' TO MARKETPLACES FOR EID SHOPPING DESPITE RISING PRICES

Kuwait City: After more than two years, children and their parents were able to enter markets and malls to buy new clothes for Eid al-Fitr without having to deal with any restrictions, procedures, or health requirements imposed on them during the COVID-19 pandemic, which had forced them to stay confined in their homes and had changed the flavour and tastes of Eid in their imagination and feelings. Following these two difficult years, during which shoppers were cut off from the real world and forced to rely on internet buying, shops and malls were crowded throughout the country. Families are preparing for Eid by purchasing new clothes and shoes for adults and children.

The last 10 days of Ramadan saw heavy traffic on the roads surrounding the markets, as well as a visible security presence to regulate traffic, control security, and deal with any emergencies. Children assisted their families in selecting Eid clothing, beginning with shoes and clothing and on to accessories, which were dominated by images of cartoon characters seen on the screens of their smart gadgets. In the field of selling and making dishdasha textiles for men, as well as searching for the current fashion for women's apparel, competition was fierce.
