KUWAIT IS STILL SUFFERING FROM CHICKEN SHORTAGE

  • 10/06/2022

Kuwait City: Despite the government's efforts to assure food security, manage the market, and avoid shortages of basics, consumers are complaining about chicken shortages in cooperatives and parallel markets. Several government bodies, including the Committee on Food Security, had conducted field inspections the day before. The examination was sparked by an uptick in consumer and cooperative society concerns regarding a severe shortage of poultry products.

The scarcity is clearly the result of a manufactured crisis generated by some distribution businesses. The assessment finds that there is a trend in the market to hold off on supplying products in order to raise prices by 20%. The inspection was conducted out under the supervision of the Ministry of Affairs in various co-operative societies. There is no doubt that some things are in excess supply, but local chicken is in short supply.
