KUWAIT EATERIES ARE EXPERIENCING REVENUE LOSS

Kuwait City: According to Kuwait Federation of Restaurants, Cafès, and Catering Services Chairperson Fahd Al-Arbash, the sector's revenues have decreased by 40% compared to its earnings in June, when it suffered millions of dollars in losses. Al-Arbash revealed in a statement that the sector is facing several challenges, the most significant of which is the rising price of raw materials used in operational processes such as oil, butter, chicken, rice, cheese, chocolate, and others.

He also stated that the prices of some items have increased by 100 percent, prompting many restaurant owners to purchase primary products on credit. He warned that restaurants' losses would be exacerbated by a lack of price control.

He went on to say that the rise in operating costs was not limited to raw materials, but also included packaging and processing costs. He pointed out that plastic and paper used for packaging purposes account for 30% of restaurant expenses, exacerbating restaurant owners' woes. He cited the summer season as one of the factors contributing to the decline in restaurant revenues; many of which incurred huge losses due to low customer turnout during the summer season, which coincides with the travel season, when a large number of citizens and expatriates are outside the country.
