KUWAIT'S NUMEROUS HOME DELIVERY SERVICES ARE IN THREAT OF CLOSING DOWN

Kuwait City: Numerous home delivery service businesses are anticipated to close their doors 48 hours before the new law takes effect on Saturday. It is therefore fair to wonder if these businesses have completed the tasks the Ministry of the Interior asked of them and are prepared to put the new law into effect. Many business owners, especially restaurant owners, have asked for an extension of the deadline given to them in order to improve the conditions of their organisations, particularly with regard to the drivers who must have a health card. It appears that many delivery services will be unable to comply with the requirements.

Without success, numerous requests for a meeting to discuss the circumstances of the companies and how much they were impacted by the decision were sent to the Ministry of Interior.

Ibrahim Al-Tuwaijri, the head of the Federation of Delivery Companies, stated that a large number of delivery companies will cease operations as a result of the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition and Kuwait Municipality's extremely slow completion of their transactions. He also noted that obtaining an employee's health card takes between 3 weeks and about a month, which is one of the major challenges faced by businesses.

In a related context, sources predicted that local restaurants would lose more than 2.5 million dinars per week, or 10 million dinars per month, as a result of the decline in delivery requests, which were estimated to be 500,000 requests every 7 days, or about 72 thousand requests per day, or about 25% of the total daily requests.
