ANOTHER EMIRATE HAS BANNED PLASTICS

Dubai: Another emirate with plastic ban. Ummul Khuwain is planning to ban single-use plastic bags. From January 1, shops will charge 25 fils for single-use plastic bags. The decision rests with the Umm al-Khuwain Executive Council. 


Shoppers must bring reusable bags. Those who do not have to pay 25 fils to buy plastic bags. The restriction is ahead of a complete ban on plastic use. Awareness programs will also be organized about the negative aspects of plastic use.

Meanwhile, shops in Sharjah have started charging for plastic bags. 25 fils will be charged for each plastic bag. The charge comes ahead of single-use plastic bags being banned in the emirate. The authorities had already notified about this.

From January 1, 2024, production, trade, import and distribution of single-use plastic bags and similar items will be completely banned. According to the notice issued by the Sharjah Executive Council, businesses should prepare eco-friendly alternative systems for consumers to replace single-use plastic bags.

The ban on single-use plastic bags is aimed at identifying and combating the ill effects of plastic pollution. The ban will be in such a way as to enable consumers to identify with such products by reducing their usage before introducing a complete ban.
