NEW POLICY TO BUY AND SELL ALCOHOL IN ABU DHABI

Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism has announced new standards for buying, selling and storing alcohol. Details about the ingredients, origin, manufacturer, shelf life and percentage of alcohol must be specified on the label.


According to the new law, the minimum alcohol content in liquor should be 0.5%. The wine should not taste or smell of vinegar. Beer should not contain artificial sweeteners, flavors or colors other than caramel. Dispensing should be in a clean environment.

Other details of alcohol used should also be recorded. Packing, transportation, storage and distribution should be done systematically and meticulously. Firms have been given a six-month grace period to implement the reform to ensure the safety of consumers and suppliers. Legal action will be taken against violators.
