US AUTHORITIES CONFIRMS LINKS TO KUWAIT

Kuwait City: Concerns of mutual interest were discussed by Lieutenant General Khaled Saleh Al-Sabah, Chief of General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army, and Dana Stroul, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East.


In a statement released on Wednesday, the General Staff noted that both parties had discussed recent developments on regional and global fronts. It also noted that Lieutenant-General Al-Sabah had hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of the visitor and her accompanying delegation. Two American officials stated on Wednesday that Washington is keen to forge bilateral ties with allies in the Middle East and that the US is committed to the stability and security of the region. 

While in Kuwait, US Assistant Secretaries of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf and Dana Stroul, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for the Middle East, held discussions with Kuwaiti representatives from the foreign and defence ministries on topics of mutual interest. Assistant Secretary Leaf has stated that Washington is continuing its efforts to bring peace to Yemen in statements to the local press. She stated that the resolution of the Yemeni crisis is essential for regional peace. 

Regarding the predicament in Palestine, Leaf remarked that the new American administration entered office with relations already weakened and declared that they are working to improve these relations and give the Palestinian people the aid they so desperately need. Regarding the deteriorating Israeli-Palestinian relations, Leaf said that Washington is eager to restart the stalemated negotiations. Regarding the energy market's stability, Leaf reaffirmed that Washington is working to achieve it, particularly in light of the coronavirus pandemic and the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.
