Bird flu: Millions of chicken culled in South Africa

  • 04/10/2023

South Africa has implemented a cull of 7.5 million chicken in an attempt to contain the spread of two distinct avian influenza strains, which could lead to a decrease in the availability of eggs and poultry to consumers, according to a statement from the government and the national poultry association on Tuesday. A total of 205,000 chickens are believed to have succumbed to avian influenza in at least 60 distinct outbreaks across the country.
