Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has announced the launch of Harakat Sikka, an intensive stop-motion animation and storytelling program, with applications now open. Running from August 18 to September 26, 2025, the course will be held at House 436 in the Al Shindagha Historical Neighborhood.
The month-long training invites UAE nationals and residents aged 18 and above — including students, artists, filmmakers, designers, and writers — regardless of prior experience. Sessions will be conducted three times weekly in both Arabic and English, fostering a diverse creative environment.
Participants will be mentored by Boubaker Boukhari, a celebrated stop-motion director known for his folkloric and experimental work. The program will walk them through every phase of animation production: from concept creation and storyboarding to filming, editing, and final screening. Additional workshops in character design, sound recording, and visual storytelling will round out the experience.
The course will culminate in a public showcase at the upcoming Sikka Art & Design Festival, highlighting participant projects. This initiative underscores Dubai’s commitment to nurturing local creative talent and cementing its role as a global cultural hub.
To apply, interested candidates must submit a short written statement explaining their motivation to join the program. A CV or creative portfolio is optional. Applications close on August 8, 2025, and must be submitted via the official Dubai Culture platform.
