Turkey Issues Arrest Warrants for Israeli Leaders Over Alleged Gaza Genocide

  • 08/11/2025

Turkey has taken the dramatic step of issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and multiple senior government officials, alleging genocide and crimes against humanity in Gaza. The Istanbul prosecutor's office named 37 suspects, including Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

The warrants accuse Israeli leaders of systematic and deliberate acts against Gaza's Palestinian population, resulting in widespread civilian casualties. Turkish authorities specifically cited the bombing of the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital, a facility built by Turkey, as evidence of violations of international humanitarian law.

This represents one of the strongest legal actions by any nation against Israeli leadership since the Gaza conflict began. The move aligns with Turkey's earlier decision to support South Africa's genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. Israel has condemned the warrants as a politically motivated "PR stunt" by President Erdoğan and maintains its actions in Gaza were self-defense against Hamas rocket attacks. The development comes amid a fragile US-brokered ceasefire that has temporarily halted fighting.
