Riyadh has launched an advanced security initiative by installing 1,600 AI-powered smart cameras across public parks and city squares. The "Smart Surveillance" system uses artificial intelligence to monitor public spaces 24/7, enabling immediate detection of security and safety concerns.
These cameras are designed to identify various issues including vandalism, unauthorized fires, damage to plants and public facilities, and unusual gatherings. A key feature is their ability to help locate lost children in these areas. The system is directly linked to central monitoring rooms where AI analytics instantly flag violations for rapid response by authorities.
Additionally, the project utilizes AI to analyze field data for generating periodic reports that support improved park management and future planning. The municipality has established a detailed fine structure for violations, with penalties ranging from 100 to 1,000 riyals (and potentially double for repeat offenses) for offenses such as damaging plants, playground equipment, or waste containers.
