European Film Festival Kicks Off in Riyadh, Strengthening Cultural Dialogue

  • 04/11/2025

The fourth European Film Festival has commenced in Riyadh, marking a significant event in Saudi Arabia's growing cultural scene. Running until November 11th at Vox Cinemas, the festival presents 15 diverse films from across Europe, including countries like Italy, France, Spain, and Ukraine.

Organized through a collaboration between the European Union delegation, Arab Pictures, and EU member embassies, the festival aims to strengthen cultural dialogue. The selected films span various genres such as drama and comedy and are screened with both English and Arabic subtitles for local audiences.

Beyond film screenings, the event includes side discussions on the future of filmmaking, focusing on topics like virtual reality and animation. This festival provides a crucial platform for Saudi and European filmmakers to connect and exchange expertise, further solidifying Saudi Arabia's emerging role on the global cinematic map. This growth follows the country's 2018 lifting of its cinema ban, which has since led to the establishment of 64 cinemas with 630 screens and over 17.5 million tickets sold.
