In a significant move to expand access to knowledge, the Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, has allocated a grant of 4.5 million dirhams for public libraries. The funds will be used to acquire new books from publishers participating in the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair, providing readers, researchers, and students across the UAE with access to the latest publications.
Sheikha Badour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority, emphasized that libraries serve as vital archives of human thought and bridges between cultures, praising the Ruler's ongoing support for knowledge-based progress. The grant also aims to bolster the publishing industry by creating substantial demand for new books.
The upcoming book fair, themed 'Between You and Books,' will feature 2,350 publishers from 118 countries, including 1,126 international publishers, and will host over 1,200 cultural and educational events with free public entry.
