Milei Wins Commanding Mandate in Argentine Legislative Elections

In a decisive political shift, Argentine President Javier Milei's La Libertad Avanza party has won a landslide victory in legislative elections. This result significantly strengthens his ability to enact sweeping free-market and austerity reforms.

With over 90% of votes counted, Milei's party led with 40.84% of the vote, soundly defeating the main Peronist opposition coalition. This midterm election was widely seen as a national referendum on Milei's presidency, and the outcome signals strong voter endorsement for his economic overhaul.

The victory translates into substantial legislative power. La Libertad Avanza tripled its seats in the lower house, securing 101 deputies, and increased its Senate representation to 20 seats. This new majority provides Milei with the votes to uphold presidential vetoes, block impeachment attempts, and pass ambitious reforms on taxes and labor.

The win is expected to solidify support from US President Donald Trump, whose administration has extended a $40 billion financial package. This backing is seen as crucial for Argentina's economic stability.

Celebrating the result, Milei declared the victory a "turning point" for Argentina, promising to accelerate his reform program. This comeback is particularly notable after a recent local defeat, and it comes alongside a significant drop in inflation, which has fallen from 289% to 32% in recent months.
