The UAE has implemented a stringent new strategy to address student truancy as public schools approach the first-term examinations for the 2025-2026 academic year. Under the Ministry of Education's updated attendance policy, each day a student is absent without a valid reason until the 19th of this month will be counted as two days off.
This measure, which previously applied only to Fridays, has been extended to all school days leading up to exams to reinforce student discipline and academic readiness. Unexcused absences may impact a student's promotion to the next grade. The main exams are scheduled from November 20th to December 4th, with a six-day break incorporating UAE National Day celebrations.
Concurrently, schools are running academic enhancement programs such as 'Together with the Structure' and 'Digital Empowerment Initiative' to strengthen learning skills and foster independent, creative thinking. Additionally, parents and students have been advised to ensure electronic devices are properly configured for online assessments, with families bearing responsibility for any device damages or replacements.
