Kuwait Issues 3,500 Arrest Warrants for Debtors Since Law Amendment

  • 30/11/2025

Kuwait has actively enforced its revised debt laws by issuing around 3,500 arrest warrants against debt defaulters since the legal amendments were implemented last February. According to informed sources, the warrants include 2,200 against Kuwaiti citizens and 1,300 against non-Kuwaitis, with 350 women among those targeted.

The enforcement has prompted significant debt repayment, with over 1,000 individuals settling their obligations in a single day following the Ministry of Interior's announcement about linking arrest warrants to the "Rased" field monitoring application. Currently, 1,964 warrants have been executed against those who paid their debts, compared to 129 warrants for active debtors, with 114 release orders issued.

Authorities require substantial evidence of debt, proof of financial capability, and flight risk before issuing arrest warrants. The "Rased" system enables immediate identification and detention of debtors at checkpoints, with subsequent transfer to prison facilities, demonstrating Kuwait's intensified approach to debt enforcement through technological integration and legal measures.
