Rescue workers found the bodies of 11 hikers after Mount Merapi volcano erupted in West Sumatra in Indonesia on Sunday, AFP reported, citing officials. Three climbers were survived, while 12 remain missing.
The volcanic eruption caused the evacuation of thousands of tourists and locals living on the mountain’s slopes. The eruption sent an ash column of up to 3 kilometres into the air, prompting authorities to set up an exclusion zone around the volcano’s crater.
