The General Administration of Customs' Director General, Abdullah Al-Sharhan, has recently released Customs Instructions No. 21 of 2024, which represents a significant advancement in GCC customs protocols. Commencing on April 23, 2024, these new guidelines introduce a direct tax transfer system designed to enhance the efficiency of customs clearance procedures for both new and pre-owned cars. According to the directive, vehicles can now undergo customs clearance within a maximum period of two years from the date of the initial customs duty payment in the first customs declaration. The main goal of this directive is to eliminate the need for duplicate customs tax payments across GCC nations, thereby facilitating smoother cross-border vehicle movements.
