According to data compiled by the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Kuwait stands out as one of the most generous nations worldwide when it comes to social spending. In the fiscal year 2023/2024, Kuwait dedicated KD 13.88 billion to social welfare programs, which accounts for 52.83% of its total budget of KD 26.27 billion. This strong commitment to social welfare is further demonstrated by the allocation of 28.3% of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) to social spending. This level of investment matches that of countries like Denmark and surpasses Germany (25.9%), Sweden (25.5%), and Norway (25.3%).
