Russian Missile Strikes in Ukraine Damage EU and British Offices, Kill 23 in Kyiv

Russian missile strikes hit Kyiv and multiple Ukrainian regions, killing at least 23 people and wounding 63 others in one of the largest attacks on the capital in recent months. The assault damaged critical infrastructure, including the EU and British Council offices, a Turkish enterprise, and the Azerbaijani embassy, though no casualties were reported at these diplomatic sites.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned the strikes, emphasizing that they deliberately targeted civilians and non-military infrastructure rather than combat objectives. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 563 drones and 26 missiles, but Russian forces still caused significant damage to energy facilities, triggering power outages across 13 locations.

The White House confirmed that former U.S. President Donald Trump was briefed on the attacks, with special envoy Keith Kellogg noting Russia’s focus on residential areas, civilian trains, and diplomatic sites. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen denounced the strikes as acts of terror and announced preparations for a 19th sanctions package against Russia, including plans to use frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.

The escalation underscores stalled diplomatic efforts to end the war, despite recent summits involving global leaders. British PM Keir Starmer criticized Russia’s targeting of civilian entities, while Zelenskiy advanced security talks with Turkey’s President Erdogan. The attacks highlight ongoing brutality in the conflict and the urgent need for intensified international response.
