Flash floods and landslides kill 15 in Indonesia's Bali and East Nusa Tenggara

Flash floods and landslides triggered by torrential rains have claimed at least 15 lives in Indonesia's Bali and East Nusa Tenggara provinces, with rescue teams recovering bodies and searching for 10 missing individuals. The natural disasters caused rivers to overflow, submerging homes, markets, and tourist areas while mudslides buried entire villages across both regions.

In East Nusa Tenggara's Nagekeo district, six villagers died and four remain missing after flash floods destroyed bridges, government offices, plantations, and rice fields. Bali reported nine confirmed deaths, with floodwaters reaching 2.5 meters in some areas and forcing over 800 people into emergency shelters. The flooding submerged nine cities and districts, damaging infrastructure and cutting electricity and water supplies to hotels, restaurants, and hospitals.

Indonesia's disaster agency has warned that heavy seasonal rains between September and March pose ongoing risks of further flooding and landslides in vulnerable regions. Rescue operations continue using rubber boats to evacuate stranded residents from rooftops while assessing the full extent of damage to local communities and tourism infrastructure.
