Cairo : On Saturday, Egyptian antiquities officials announced the discovery of at least 100 ancient coffins, some with mummies inside. Also found 40 gilded statues in a vast Pharonic necropolis south of Cairo. As per reports, archaeologists opened a coffin with a well-preserved mummy wrapped in cloth inside. The authorities carried out X-raying to visualize the structures of the ancient mummy, showing how it had been preserved.  Khaled el-Anany, Tourism and Antiquities Minister said that the discovered items date back to the Ptolemic dynasty that ruled Egypt for 300 years. He also added that they would move the artifacts to at least three Cairo museums including the Grand Egyptian Museum that Egypt is building near the famed Giza Pyramids. He said that they would announce another discovery at the Saqqara necropolis later.
