Portugal: Cristiano Ronaldo produced a record-breaking performance as Portugal thrashed Uzbekistan 5-0, becoming the first player in history to score in six different men’s World Cups.
The 41-year-old forward responded emphatically to recent criticism following Portugal’s opening 1-1 draw with Democratic Republic of the Congo. After scoring twice, Ronaldo celebrated passionately, sending a clear message to those who had questioned his role and impact at the tournament.
Ronaldo opened the scoring just six minutes into the match, volleying home a cross from Joao Cancelo. He doubled his tally before halftime after finishing a perfectly timed through-ball from Bruno Fernandes, helping Portugal take complete control of the contest.
The veteran striker came close to securing a hat-trick before the break, but a goal-line clearance from Abdukodir Khusanov denied him a third goal. Despite several opportunities in the second half, Ronaldo was unable to complete the hat-trick as Portugal comfortably sealed victory.
The achievement further adds to Ronaldo’s remarkable international career and places him alone in the World Cup record books. His performance also strengthens Portugal’s position in Group K as they continue their pursuit of World Cup glory.
